Top 50 Gambling Books of All Time Named by CasinoOnline.co.uk

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM–(Marketwire – Sept. 30, 2010) – The drug-induced gambling classic, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, has topped a list compiled by Casino Online of the Top 50 Gambling Books of All Time. The final list comprises all forms of gambling books, from novels to ‘how to’ guides and everything in-between.

“It’s amazing to think that a book first published in 1971 still holds its ground today, especially in the fast-paced world of gambling”. Holly Emblem, editor of CasinoOnline.co.uk, continued: “Both our readers and the team at CasinoOnline.co.uk believe that Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas epitomises both the best and worst of Las Vegas. Outrageous and eccentric, Thompson’s account of Sin City is by far the best gambling related book published to date.”

Just behind Thompson’s modern classic was Ian Fleming’s James Bond novel, Casino Royale, and Edward O. Thorp’s title, Beat the Dealer, which came second and third respectively. Other books to make it into the top ten include Michael Shackleford’s Gambling 102, a casino strategy guide, and Ben Mezrich’s Bringing Down the House, which was adapted into the film, 21. Renowned writer, Mezrich, who is also the author of The Accidental Billionaires (now the motion picture The Social Network), commented that “It’s an honor to be on the list, I’ve always said I’m Hunter S Thompson without the drugs and guns, so my book being ranked only 6 spots below his masterpiece is a great thrill!”

CasinoOnline.co.uk compiled the top 50 by asking visitors to select their favourite five gambling books. The rest of the top 50 was created using both editorial selections and recommendations. The books were then thoroughly reviewed and the 50 most popular books were selected and ranked. The top ten list is as follows:
