SAN DIEGO, CA–(Marketwire – November 23, 2010) – Valley View Casino & Hotel, San Diego’s favorite casino featuring 2,000 slot machines, 26 exciting table games and seven delicious restaurants, recently upped their ante in the gaming industry with the addition of a fabulous new boutique hotel. The new tower was built using the latest in innovative technologies and practices in the construction industry by General Contractor Swinerton Builders San Diego.
On November 19th, Swinerton joined the San Pasqual Casino Development Group, Inc., San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians, casino staff and community members for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new seven story, boutique luxury hotel which offers 96 rooms and 12 suites, a pool deck with infinity pool and event center all of which boast amazing views of Palomar Mountain and Hellhole Canyon Preserve. The Architect was JMA Architecture Studios and Summit Project Management was the Construction Manager.
The hotel tower was constructed on a steep hillside and the entire site for the development had to be constructed to grades established above the slope of the existing hillside which required complex shoring systems that varied across the site. Due to the challenging nature of the location and their customer-centric philosophy, Swinerton Builders San Diego took the lead in developing a Building Information Model (BIM), using the services of their best-in-class, in-house Virtual Design & Construction Team.
Swinerton utilized BIM to assist in the design of the shoring and foundation systems, development of subcontract work scope packages, and locating, identifying and coordinating existing and new site utilities. BIM was also used in the construction phase, coordinating the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection trades. Citrix Go-to-Meeting was used extensively to conduct virtual BIM Coordination Meetings online with the rest of the project team.
Though not contracted as a Design-Build project, functioning in this “Design-Assist” approach proved to be most beneficial for all involved in the project. It allowed the design team to make adjustments early on in the design process and for Swinerton to interact effectively in a solution-oriented approach that would have benefits throughout the course of the project, including the added advantage of completing the hotel two months ahead of schedule.
