British Columbia Lottery Corporation: ‘Strategy’ Pays Off for Millionaire Couple

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(Marketwire – July 14, 2010) – A Langley couple, who this week claimed a $1 Million MAXMILLION prize, has revealed what they call their “winning formula”.

With a $50 Million top prize and an estimated 55 MAXMILLIONS advertised for the June 25 LOTTO MAX draw, Darryl Harty and Tracy Chatt developed a strategy for purchasing their tickets.

“We know the odds of winning are the same no matter where you buy your tickets,” said Harty, “But we just decided that we would spread out our purchases across a couple of different lottery stores because we felt it would somehow increase our chances of getting lucky.”

While every ticket has the same chance of winning, among the tickets purchased by Harty, a 56-year-old truck dispatcher, and Chatt, a 48-year-old hospital worker, was a $20 LOTTO MAX PACK from Safeway on 200th Street in Langley.

“That turned out to be the lucky one,” said Chatt, who was the first to discover that they had matched all seven numbers to win one million dollars. “We plan to pay off our mortgage, travel, and save the rest for retirement.”

No winning ticket was sold for last Friday’s LOTTO MAX jackpot sending the game into “MAXMILLIONS mode” for this week’s draw, which will offer players a top prize of $50 Million plus an estimated 10 MAXMILLION prizes of $1 Million each.

LOTTO MAX can be played at all BCLC retail locations and online at PlayNow.com. Tickets are sold until 6:00 p.m. (PDT) on draw day (Friday). Winning numbers can be found online at bclc.com following each draw.
