Local Company Endeavors to Make a Difference, One Charity at a Time
MILLERSVILLE, MD–(Marketwire – October 19, 2010) – During the month of September, employees of Travel Advantage Network (TAN), a wholesale vacation accommodations program, banded together to raise $1,193 for Habitat for Humanity.
Impressed by the organization’s mission of providing safe, decent and affordable shelter to those in need throughout the world, TAN staffer Dee Ann Arneson led the charitable efforts and emphasizes her reasoning in supporting the charity: “Habitat for Humanity affects more than just the family that gets the new home — it also helps to reclaim neighborhoods through the renovation of derelict homes in need of repair. It’s a win-win situation.”
A supporter for over 10 years, Ms. Arneson admires the “sweat equity” recipients of homes are required to invest in the renovation of each future residence. Once the home is completed, it is sold to the recipient at no profit and the mortgage payments then go to help build other Habitat for Humanity residences.
Travel Advantage Network employees champion a different charity each month in an effort to “pay it forward.” Fundraising efforts for Habitat for Humanity included an employee raffle, a pay-to-wear-jeans day, and a contest centered on guessing an item’s weight.
