COCHRANE, ALBERTA–(Marketwire – Aug. 23, 2010) – Representatives from the 15 Calgary Regional Partnership (CRP) municipalities will get a close-up look at the vehicle proposed as an option for future regional transit services in their communities. Cochrane, in conjunction with CRP, is hosting a demonstration of the double deck bus August 24. Media are invited to ride the bus at 10:30 am
CRP member communities worked cooperatively to develop the Calgary Regional Transit Plan; it was approved in November 2009. Cochrane is slated to roll out regional transit in 2012, following closely behind Airdrie, which begins service this fall. Other municipalities will move toward regional transit based on budget and resources. CRP member municipalities hope to take advantage of provincial GreenTRIP funding to accelerate introduction of regional transit.
Media are invited to ride the bus at 10:30 am. Cochrane Mayor Truper McBride, chair of the CRP’s transportation committee, will host a 30-minute tour of Cochrane in the double deck bus. There will also be an opportunity for questions and answers. Media availability to follow the bus ride.
