Bob Cutler, CEO of Creative Consumer Concepts (C3), said American restaurant operators, over the past many years, added healthy items to their menus in response to consumer requests. “American restaurant operators have always expressed concerns and commitments towards providing healthy choices, not only to children, but adults as well. However, the process they go through to determine the proportion of healthy offerings on menus involves being sensitive to what the market says it wants, relative to menu choices. Clearly, it is the in the interest of every business to offer what consumers want, stay profitable, continue to employ people and pay taxes to fund our government,” said Cutler.

Cutler who is the owner of C3, one of the largest, kid-smart brand marketing agencies to the restaurant industry, said that he is frustrated with politicians and wishes that restaurateurs could be applauded for their efforts and progress. “The real question no one is willing to ask is: How has the obesity epidemic continued to grow when billions of dollars are spent on after-school programs, nonprofit-supported parent education and free healthcare services,” Cutler said.

Cutler added, “The result of government interference, such as Eric Mar’s San Francisco Happy Meal Toy Ban, is a slippery slope. Government interference will further alienate San Francisco business owners and citizens once the hand of government enters into their business or home. It is well known that more legislation is in the making to regulate each citizen’s rights under the pretense of the good of the public,” said Cutler.
