Museum Exhibit Features Work From the Father of Pop Art

ANCHORAGE, AK–(Marketwire – December 3, 2010) – Experience an influential piece in the puzzle of America’s Pop Art history and discover the common thread that links soup cans, Elvis and Jacqueline Kennedy to one of the most influential and iconic artists of the 20th century by visiting a unique exhibit now on display at the Anchorage Museum. Gather up the family to enjoy the convenience of the only hotel offering luxury Anchorage accommodations and plan a getaway to see the engaging and fun exhibition “Andy Warhol: Manufactured.”

Challenging traditional ideas about art by mechanically repeating a single image, Warhol mimicked the manufacturing industry and created a parody of mass consumption with his work, which has come to be recognized worldwide. This special museum exhibit spans 5,000 square feet of space and displays nearly 90 Warhol originals, including his portraits of Jacqueline Kennedy, Judy Garland and Elizabeth Taylor, along with selections from his Campbell’s Soup series and his hot pink The Last Supper, which alone spans 25 feet. In addition to these famous works, Warhol is well known for his MTV astronaut logo and is often referred to as the father of Pop Art. Interactive portions of the exhibit will include hands-on fun including life-size Colorforms of 1960s clothing and silver wigs for children to “try on,” a retro photo booth, a Silver Clouds tunnel and other Warhol-inspired art activities.

The Anchorage Marriott Downtown is located in the heart of Anchorage and provides guests with convenient access to the museum in addition to other downtown attractions, including the Performing Arts Center, shopping, the city’s convention district and popular Anchorage downtown restaurants. More information about the exhibit, which will be on display through Jan. 30, 2011, may be found by visiting www.anchoragemuseum.org/galleries/warhol/about.aspx.
