NEW YORK, NY–(Marketwire – June 29, 2010) – Indigo restaurant at One Aldwych hotel celebrates the quintessential British afternoon tea with a fresh take on the much-loved experience.
As with every menu produced by Tony Fleming, the hotel’s executive chef, his afternoon tea celebrates the finest, freshest ingredients. Tony has looked to classic dishes — both sweet and savoury — and created lighter versions. So a creamy, fruity Eton Mess is presented in a small glass, a bitter chocolate tart disappears in two bites and the retro pink and yellow checker board Battenberg cake is delightfully finger sized. Irresistible warm Scottish drop scones are served with berry compote and clotted cream.
Tea sandwiches too have been revised by Tony, with traditional fillings such as roast beef and horseradish partnered with caramelised onion bread, smoked salmon and cream cheese teamed with onion bread and cucumber and cream cheese matched with caraway bread. Perfectly presented mini versions of quail Scotch eggs and Welsh Rarebit round off the occasion.
These sweet, savoury and sandwich items are presented on an elegant contemporary three-tier stand with in-set porcelain dishes.
A selection of eight Newby Teas’ award-winning leaf teas and infusions is offered: English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Assam, Lapsang Souchong, Jasmine Pearls, Chamomile and Peppermint.
