30 Years of Hotel Leadership Comes to a South Beach Boutique Hotel

MIAMI BEACH, FL–(Marketwire – August 16, 2010) –  The distinguished landmark boutique hotel, The Betsy, has announced the appointment of Jeff Lehman as its new General Manager. Lehman brings a depth and breadth of hospitality experience with more than 30 years of proven success in the industry in both the international and domestic arenas. With more than 15 years in the Miami Beach market, of which 9 were served as General Manager of the National, Lehman also devoted his efforts to serving as a board and committee member for organizations that are dedicated to promoting tourism in the region. This makes him a perfect fit for the luxury hotel that has sets its sights on refining hospitality in South Beach.

Prior to Lehman’s appointment at The Betsy, he was General Manager at the Claridge Hotel on Miami Beach. From 1991 to 1995, Jeff was an Assistant General Manager for Bass Hotels & Resorts. Then from 1995 to 1997, Lehman was the Operations Manager for the Miami Beach Ocean Resort, before becoming the Operations Manager for The National Hotel in 1997. In 1998, he was appointed General Manager of The National Hotel, a position he would hold until 2007, where he established The National as one of South Beach’s premier independent hotels. Lehman’s other past hospitality experiences include positions at the Sunset Marquis, West Hollywood, CA; American Hawaii Cruises, Honolulu, Hawaii & Papeete, Tahiti; Le Parc Hotel DeLuxe, West Hollywood, CA; and The Regent Biltmore Hotel, Los Angeles, CA.

In support of the hospitality and tourism community, Lehman is currently serving as the Vice Chair of the Miami VCA (Visitor and Convention Authority). Previously, he has served as a board member for the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, and was a member of the Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Task Force on Tourism and as Vice Chair of the Collins Avenue Reconstruction Task Force. In 2009, Lehman accompanied Miami Mayor Bower and a local delegation on a goodwill journey to their sister city of Fujisawa, Japan, to further their diplomatic and economic relationship. He has been awarded formal appreciation by the Mayor and City Commissioners and was awarded a “Key to the City of Miami Beach” in February 2006.

“It is a privilege to be working for such a landmark property in South Beach which has established itself with such a unique boutique hotel vision,” says Jeff Lehman, General Manager of The Betsy.

“I believe that Jeff will provide the leadership necessary to continue to deliver the level of services for guests that have won us so many accolades this year. We are confident we have selected the best candidate to bring us forward,” says Jonathan Plutzik, Chairman of The Betsy. “Jeff’s deep connections in the community and knowledge of the industry gives us the opportunity to keep The Betsy as one of the top boutique luxury hotels in South Beach.”
