The Courtyard by Marriott San Jose/Campbell Is “Mixing It Up”

CAMPBELL, CA–(Marketwire – November 23, 2010) – Almost 200 Silicon Valley professionals attended the Mixing It Up social networking event put on by the Courtyard by Marriott San Jose/Campbell on Thursday, November 11th, 2010. Toby Cheng, the Director of Sales at the hotel near San Jose, is on the committee of the Silicon Valley Young Professionals Association. Reaching out to his network there and at the Campbell Chamber of Commerce, he hosted his 3rd social networking mixer focusing on “A Little Bit of Business and a Whole Lot of Fun,” and if the packed San Jose hotel’s lobby was any indication, the mixer was a great success.

Networking aside, the team at Courtyard by Marriott San Jose/Campbell wanted to do something charitable for the community, so they incorporated a food drive with this event. Contributions from attendees were donated to Loaves and Fishes, a non-profit organization that has been serving the working poor, families, homeless and seniors living in and around the San Jose area for close to 30 years. In the spirit of giving back to others, attendees brought nonperishable food items to donate to the charity, filling a barrel to overflowing in a matter of an hour.

Mayor Evan Low, Francine Principe from the Redevelopment Department, current Councilman Mike Kotowski, and incoming Councilman Rich Waterman were all in attendance. Also in the mix were members of the Filipino Chamber, Silicon Valley Young Professionals, employees from local companies such as Xilinx, PG&E, eBay, Apple, local media, Campbell Chamber and a variety of service organizations and businesses.

Local Campbell eateries Buca di Beppo, Le Boulanger, Hobee’s California Restaurants and Mountain Mike’s Pizza in Campbell laid out an endless spread of savory food and mouthwatering desserts while the Courtyard Campbell had the beverages flowing from their full bar.

Mixing It Up was a hit and the buzz is that people can’t wait for the next event! A few people walked away with movie tickets, massages, dinners to the participating restaurants, wine baskets and a free night’s stay at the Courtyard Campbell from the business card drawing. Best of all, everyone left having made new connections, found fresh opportunities, and forged new friendships.

The Campbell Courtyard, Chamber, and other partners plan to continue these events into 2011, hopefully on a quarterly basis.
