LOS ANGELES, CA–(Marketwire – August 23, 2010) –  Oakwood Worldwide (www.oakwood.com) is pleased to announce it is the exclusive provider of temporary housing services at the Indigo @ twelve | west in Portland, Oregon, the nation’s first LEED Platinum certified apartment building and the first Portland building to have rooftop wind turbines.

“As a company, we are committed to supporting initiatives that drive awareness of climate change, such as the National Wildlife Federation’s www.ClimateClassroomKids.org, so this is an amazing building to have in our portfolio. Additionally, we are able to offer our guests a beautiful and earth-friendly location that is situated in the popular art district of Portland,” notes Jill Chapman, SVP of Sales and Marketing for Oakwood.

People can identify the Indigo building due to its crop of wind turbines standing on the roof. Just below, the building boasts a beautiful rooftop garden, which serves to cool the building and both harvests and distributes run-off rainwater. These are just two of the green features of the building that makes it the first LEED Platinum certified apartment building in the US. LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system developed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) providing verification that a building was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance in energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

The Indigo also offers hotel-like amenities to residents. Highlights include Concierge services, In-Room Spa services, Room Service from resident restaurants, 24/7 Personal Trainer and Yoga Instructor, Rooftop Parties and a Private Cinema room.

“Indigo @ twelve | west was created to provide residents with unique amenities and services that are unparalleled in Portland, Oregon,” notes Michael Burke, General Manager of Indigo @ twelve | west “When the need for temporary housing arose, Oakwood Worldwide was up to the challenge and have met each one of our high expectations. The flexibility and customer service shown by the team at Oakwood has truly been impressive and we certainly look forward to continuing our relationship.”

In addition to the very visual rooftop gardens, solar panels and wind turbines, the Indigo offers largely unseen energy efficient savings to its residents, as well. Energy efficient appliances and high efficiency glass are housed in each of the rooms and residents have been known to have power bills as low as $12 per month. The building also uses Greenwater recycling, capturing the wastewater produced by the building and returning it as clean water suitable for use in toilets, gardens and air conditioning systems.

“Living in the Indigo @ twelve | west is amazing,” notes resident Joe Vaughn. “As a LEED Accredited Professional, I deal with sustainability features and issues most every day. Living here really lets me appreciate, first hand, the natural lighting, fresh air, energy-efficiency and comfort of a LEED Platinum property.”
