Marriott Veteran Employee Takes Helm at Bethesda Marriott Suites

BETHESDA, MD–(Marketwire – July 27, 2010) – Karen Finberg has been named General Manager of the Bethesda Marriott Suites Hotel effective July 3, 2010. The announcement was made recently by David Marriott, COO Americas Eastern Region and Sami Abuzeid, area vice president of Marriott International, Inc.

Finberg moves into the top spot at one of the premiere north Bethesda hotels after having served as Resident Manager of the JW Marriott in Washington, DC where she was actively involved in a $20 million renovation of the hotel lobby and major events such as the Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama. During her tenure she also played an instrumental role in the hotel achieving its highest guest satisfaction scores in its 25-year history.

As general manager of the Bethesda Marriott Suites, Finberg will oversee day-to-day operations of the extended stay hotel which includes newly renovated Bethesda meeting rooms that offer flexibility for small intimate meetings or larger banquets and social gatherings. The hotel’s Bethesda meeting facilities include 7,000 square feet of total meeting space and the professional skills of a dedicated Event Services Manager.

A graduate of the University of Denver with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finberg has gained extensive experience in the areas of Sales & Marketing and Operations through her 24 years of career service to Marriott International brands such as Stouffer, Renaissance and Marriott. For 20 years she worked in the areas of Event Management and Sales & Marketing for resort, downtown airport, suburban and convention properties throughout the Central and Eastern United States. She became Director of Sales & Marketing at Washington, DC’s Mayflower Hotel in 2001 and while there served as a member of the Renaissance Leadership Council overseeing Mid-Atlantic Sales & Marketing efforts. She was promoted to Regional Senior Director of Sales for the Eastern Region in 2004, overseeing 47 hotels, the Market Sales Organization and seven Event Booking Centers. She was also responsible for brand conversions and new openings for several Marriott hotels and resorts. Finberg is a certified Covey Trainer involved in roll-outs across the Eastern Region and CRST, and she will serve as the Culture Chair for the DC Business Council.
