Package Options Include Wine Tasting, Fireside Dinners and Spa

SANTA BARBARA, CA–(Marketwire – September 15, 2010) –  El Capitan Canyon, an all-season comfort camping destination just north of Santa Barbara, announces the return of its three popular fall packages. For the first time, these packages are available for weekend getaways as well as midweek escapes.

As the summer crowds disperse, El Capitan Canyon becomes a restful retreat for couples, solo travelers, girlfriends and others seeking a brief escape. Guests may explore Santa Barbara’s wine region, show off their barbecue grilling skills or relax under an aromatherapeutic massage, all while enjoying the fall foliage and temperate weather characteristic of California’s Central Coast.

El Capitan Canyon’s most popular fall package, Canyon to Wine Country Adventure, features two nights in a Creekside King Cabin, offering a king bed, gas fireplace and soaking tub. Guests receive a wine tote filled with a bottle of Santa Barbara wine; two wine glasses; keepsake bottle opener; and two tasting passes for either the Santa Barbara Winery tasting room, located downtown, or the Lafond tasting room, located at the vineyard in the Santa Ynez hills. To complete the camping experience, guests also receive a s’mores kit and a bundle of firewood to light a campfire. The package is $575, double occupancy.

The Fireside Dinner package encourages guests to spend a mild autumn evening by the campfire. It includes one night in a choice of tents or cabins, a Barbecue Kit delivered at dinnertime and a s’mores kit for dessert. Canyon Barbecue Kits include all the prepared ingredients and utensils needed to make outdoor grilling easy and fun. Entrée options include marinated seafood, tri tip or pork chops, as well as chicken or hamburgers. Side dishes include salad, baked beans and garlic bread. This package starts at $175 double occupancy in a Safari Queen Tent or $235 in a Canyon Queen Cabin; rates for other cabins and groups of four are available.

To rejuvenate mind and body for autumn, the Canyon offers the Relax & Renew package. It includes a two-night stay in a Creekside Cabin and two aromatherapy massages at the Creekside Canyon Spa using hand-picked ingredients from the garden. Guests also receive a bottle of Happy Camper, a California wine specially produced with the camping atmosphere in mind, and two signature wine glasses. The package is $645, and massages should be scheduled at time of booking.

All three packages are offered now through Nov. 23, 2010, excluding holidays, and are subject to availability. Applicable taxes and gratuities are not included.

Comfort camping means sleeping under the stars in one of the canvas safari tents or contemporary rustic cedar cabins dotting the canyon between sycamore trees showing their fall colors. Cabins and tents offer varied sleeping configurations and are heated and furnished with Western décor, soft beds, down duvets, linens and plush towels. Each one also has a front deck with two chairs, fire pit and picnic table. Cabins have full bathrooms and kitchenettes, and many feature large soaking tubs and gas fireplaces. Safari tents have electric lighting, screened windows and doors with zip-down flaps, and convenient, modern bathroom and shower facilities are located nearby.

On-site activities include exploring the Canyon on complimentary bikes, hiking 15 miles of trails on the surrounding foothills, or strolling down to the beach for tidepooling. Guests who prefer a slower pace may schedule a massage in the Creekside Canyon Spa or simply sit back to savor a glass of wine from the Canyon Market Wine Cellar’s exclusive selection. Canyon staff can suggest day trips such as horseback riding, golfing, ocean kayaking, monarch butterfly park tours, whale watching and tours of downtown Santa Barbara. The Canyon’s amenities include a ropes course, a solar-heated swimming pool, a goat and llama herd, an organic garden, and the Canyon Market & Deli, which serves meals and sells groceries, supplies and unique gifts.
