SAN FRANCISCO, CA–(Marketwire – September 1, 2010) – What’s the latest on Mexico travel? What’s a family on an affordable Mexico vacation to do? NBC’s Great Getaways put Mexico to the test this summer for a packed program of adventures, dips and trips to be taken in a whirlwind holiday South of the Border. The program begins airing on September 1 on NBC affiliate stations, including KNTV in San Francisco.
Dave Mulligan, host of NBC’s Great Getaways, took his family to both Puerto Vallarta and Cancun to find the best Mexico beaches, the most thrilling Mexico jungle adventures and the exciting secrets of the Sierra Madre for a Mexico vacation package that can be assembled and duplicated with the act of a single phone call.
The program looks at exciting family resorts in Puerto Vallarta, including two adjacent Villa Group properties: the Villa del Palmar Flamingos and the even more luxurious Villa La Estancia. The family then moves south of Puerto Vallarta’s main bay and spends several days at the Spanish-owned and influenced Barcelo Puerto Vallarta resort.
The ins and outs of the Puerto Vallarta vacation are managed by Vallarta Adventures, which takes the gang into the mountains for a day in the Sierra Madre to ride atop mules, hang tightly to zip lines speeding through the jungle canopy, even rappel down a 100-foot waterfall. The family also visits the 19th century town of San Sebastian, a charming mining town stuck in the late 1800s.
The great Mexico getaway continues in Cancun, where the family cliff-jumps in a cenote (ancient jungle sink hole), swims with wild dolphins, floats in an underground river, battles with pirates and swims with giant whale sharks twenty miles off the coast.
The program explores the varied choices in accommodations available in Cancun and for this section of the show, focuses on Le Blanc (a couples only retreat), the Cancun Palace, and Dreams Cancun, which boasts its own lagoon filled with playful dolphins.
Mexico, with all its beaches, wildlife, jungles and romance turns out to be the most adventure-filled episode of Great Getaways yet.
